Players in the Corydon catchment area play hockey through the Assiniboine Park Hockey Association (APHA).

APHA 2026-27 Registration

STEP  1 –   Registering & Online Payment: 

Registration for the 2026-27 season is through the Hockey Canada Registration System (HCR). Please update your contact emails as this is how we will be contacting you with all hockey information.

If you are trying out for AA (U13+) or AAA (U15+) register directly with Hockey Winnipeg.   If you register for AA/AAA with Hockey Winnipeg and your child is not selected to a team, your child must be registered with APHA before being able to participate in evaluations. As soon as possible, after you are informed that your child has been released back to the APHA, you must email the registrar, apharegistrar@gmail.com  so that your Hockey Winnipeg registration fee can be applied to the APHA fee.

Information re: AA/AAA tryouts will be posted on the Hockey Winnipeg website   www.hockeywinnipeg.ca

1. Some of our community clubs have volunteer bonds which must be paid before any player can go on the ice for tryouts, please check with your club.
2. If you are applying for subsidy, please contact Kathy – info@aphahockey.ca

All subsidy applications must be paid, filled out and completed (with the necessary documentation) or your child will not be allowed on the ice for tryouts!

3. The 2026 – 2027 APHA Player Information Questionnaire will ask for the player’s position. The system will record player’s position (U9 A Winterhawks) as either ‘skater’ or ‘goalie’. For U11 (Polar Bears and Winterhawks) and older the position options will be goalie, defence, forward, defence/forward. Players must choose one and will go through the evaluation process on the basis of that selection. For those wanting to be evaluated at the U9A level, please indicate this on the questionnaire.
4. The HCR system will ask you to select your child’s evaluation option – Choose only one option

• -For U9 Winterhawk (co-ed) players, you can select ‘Yes, participating in evaluations’ OR ‘No, playing U9 House   League.  If you choose to be evaluated for U9A1, you also need to register for evaluations and pay an additional $100
• -For U9 and up Polar Bear (female) players or U11 Winterhawk (coed) players and up, you can select ‘Yes, participating in evaluations’ OR ‘No, place me at the lowest level’  (which for U15 and U18 male, this would be a non-contact level).

5. The HCR system will be used for Bench Staff Applications. Options available are – Coach, Assistant Coach, Manager, Safety, Goalie Coach and Apprentice Coach.

Apprentice coaches will be considered as long as they are between the ages of 14 and 22 and have valid Respect In Sport

For Activity Leaders certification. Application must be sent to apharegistrar@gmail.com

In the HCR, register by finding/creating a Hockey Canada ID number and then selecting the option they prefer.  Anyone wanting to be part of the Bench staff must complete the HCR registration or they will not be considered. Please note, this is an application only and no guarantee of placement

6. Any required training for an APHA team will be reimbursed by APHA. Send a copy of the Hockey Canada registration receipt and a copy of your completion certification to apharegistrar@gmail.com

STEP 2- Respect in Sport Program for Parents:

The parent that is registering their player (if they have never done so in previous seasons) MUST register and complete the Respect in Sport Parent Program before November 1st.  Please Note: This is a different program than the coach/roster Respect in Sport program and must be completed by any parent registering their child for hockey.  If the parents RIS is not completed and the child is not linked to it, then the child will not be allowed to participate with the team until it has been completed and we have verified it.

1. How will the family accounts of the Respect in Sport Parent Program link to the HCR?
   When registering for the Respect in Sport Parent Program, the parent must associate a child or children to their profile (Child Management) where an association must be selected. After a parent is certified, and assuming he/she has associated a child(ren) to their profile, the HCR record of the child is updated under Clinics and Qualifications, including the Respect in Sport certificate number.  Please make sure ALL your children are linked to Hockey and Assiniboine Park Hockey!  Then click on No Further Children to Add when done.
2. What are the payment options for the RIS for Parents online course?
   The payment is done through PayPal, by credit or debit

**Register by 11:59 pm September 1^st and receive $50.00 off your registration (U9A and up)**

– Players interested in being evaluated for the Winterhawks U9A team must register for U9HL as well as for evaluations    ($100.00 cost -payable in the HCR Registration. For those who successfully make this U9A team an additional fee of $180.00 will be assessed. This will be collected by the respective teams.  Failure to pay will result in the player not being fully registered and unable to play until payment is made.

-The cost for socks, name bars and decals is included in the registration fees for U9A and up.

-The cost for U9A Development is included in the U9A fees.  The cost for U11 Development and Pathway skates is included in the U11 fees.

-The cost for the Fall Classic Tournament (formerly RobWest) is included for those age categories that participate.

-The cost for a U15A Hitting Clinic is included in the U15 fees.

-The mandatory community centre participation fee is included (fee goes to your home club)

 HOCKEY WINNIPEG NOTES  for the 2026-27 season

• U9 A Winterhawks (WH) is a combined age category (age 7-8)
• U9 A Polar Bears (PB) is a combined age category (age 6,7,8)
• If your child makes U9 A1 (WH only), additional registration fees of $180 will need to be paid
• U11 A1-A5 is a combined age category (age 9-10) WH and PB
• U13 A1-A4 is a combined age category (age 11-12) WH and PB
• U15 A1-A2 is a combined age category (age 13-14) WH and PB
• U18 A1-A2 is a combined age category (ages 15-17) WH and PB
• U15 and U18 Winterhawks will have the option of Body Checking or Non-Body Contact divisions.

APHA GENERAL NOTES for the 2026-27 hockey season

*4-Year-Old Player Registration –Only children born in 2020 or2021 are eligible to register for the 2026/2027 U7 Hockey Season.

In previous seasons, we have accepted a limited number of 4-year-old players with the understanding that this is NOT a Learn-to-Skate program. Players must already be comfortable skating independently and able to participate in a structured hockey environment.  Our U7 program is designed primarily for 5- and 6-year-old players.

While we recognize that some 4-year-olds may be ready for the program, additional support is required to ensure a positive and safe experience for all participants.

Important Requirements for 4-Year-Old (Pre Kindergarten 2022 Birthyear) Players, if approved by APHA:

-A designated parent or guardian must be on the ice at all times with the 4-year-old child during practices and games.

-The on-ice parent/guardian will be required to obtain the appropriate Hockey Canada coaching certification.

-Due to the limited number of volunteer coaches, a 4-year-old may not be eligible to participate unless a parent or guardian is available to fulfill the on-ice coaching role for the entire season.

-Acceptance of 4-year-old registrations is at the discretion of the APHA and is based on the player’s readiness and the availability of adequate on-ice support.

• All coed teams are the Winterhawks and female teams are the Polar Bears!
• APHA continues to put a strong emphasis on coaching and player development that will follow Hockey Canada’s guidelines for hockey players that register to play within the APHA.  All coaches selected are expected to follow these guidelines which emphasize fair play, ethical conduct and player development, ensuring a positive and safe environment for all participants.  The bench staff application is available online for all programs:  House League, Polar Bears and Winterhawks.

APHA EVALUATIONS

Welcome back to another year of hockey and great fun!  As each season starts with registration it quickly follows with player evaluations. The hockey directors from the six Assiniboine Park Hockey Association (APHA) community clubs have reviewed the evaluation process from last year and are looking to make improvements again this year.   We encourage ALL players to attend evaluations for their age group.  The attendance and participation in these sessions allows for the Team Formation Committee to strive for parity among all teams formed at all age groups.  If players do not attend evaluations, it does make the goal of even teams more challenging.

The APHA has again hired an independent group to perform the evaluations instead of volunteers. By hiring a group of dedicated and knowledgeable hockey staff, the APHA is hoping to provide consistent and fair player evaluations.

NOTES ABOUT CONFLICTS:  We understand that some APHA Evaluation sessions conflict with religious holidays and/or

national holidays.  We have done our best to avoid this, however, due to the scarcity of ice, this was sometimes

unavoidable.  The Team Formation Committee does have an approach in place to address situations if players

need to miss a session either due to the above reasons or due to illness.  Please advise us when you receive your

evaluation session times if such a conflict occurs and we will make note of it.  No player will be adversely affected for

missing a session due to the above reasons.

TEAM FORMATION

When you register your son or daughter for hockey you do so as part of the APHA. While you may register under your home community centre, your player is playing in a regional program. After registration, but prior to evaluations, the APHA team formation committee meets to determine how many teams there will be at each age group. This decision is based on rules set by Hockey Winnipeg and by the number of children registered at each age group across the entire APHA.

Hockey Winnipeg rules require all players to be evaluated in an association-wide process at each age group. This means that all players will be pooled together from all community centres to create teams.

NOTE:  For those playing U15 or U18 Winterhawks, your child is NOT guaranteed to be playing contact and will be placed at the appropriate level, either contact or non-contact based on their evaluation and your selection at the time of registration
