Volunteer Opportunities

Summer Camp Leadership Program:

Corydon Community Centre runs 4 summer camps weekly throughout July and August across the 3 sites (River Heights, Crescentwood, and Sir John Franklin). They are Day Camp, Specialty Camp, Sport Camp and Tot Camp.

The Summer Camp Leadership Program is a volunteer program designed for high school students who are looking to gain experience working with children in a summer camp setting. The volunteers will be responsible for assisting the camp counselors in supervising and interacting with the children, setting up and taking down activities, and acting as a role model for the children.

 

Volunteer Responsibilities (but are not limited to)

  • Assist with daily curriculum including all preparation and clean-up
  • Supervision and safety of participants in daily activities and field trips
  • Participate in camp activities while engaging with participants in an excited and enthusiastic manner
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or General Manager

 

Other Requirements

  • Patience, confidence and a willingness to learn
  • Cleared Child Abuse Registry Check (CARC) is required
  • Current First Aid/CPR and AED certification are considered assets

 

Volunteers will be scheduled for 1-week blocks based on your availability. Volunteer shifts are 8 hours per day, Monday-Friday. To get the most out of this experience, a minimum time commitment of 2 weeks is recommended.

Winterfest:

Our Annual Winterfest is held every year at the end of January. Winterfest volunteers can get in at the planning stage as well as during the event. Duties will include helping with the kids carnival games, pancake breakfasts, hockey tournament, silent auction, & children’s arts & crafts. Volunteers can start immediately.

Spring Carnival and Soccer Jamboree:

The Corydon Community Centre hosts a spring carnival and soccer jamboree in June.  Duties will include helping in the canteen, with the BBQ, getting goodie bags together, organizing teams and other activities.

Family BBQ:

The last Wednesday of June is the annual family BBQ, this is a free event for the community.  Duties will include, setup and cleanup of the venue, BBQing, handing out drinks or dessert, face painting, relay races or other carnival games, supervising bouncers or other activities as needed.

Children’s Programs:

The Corydon Community Centre offers many children’s programs year round. All programs include a variety of crafts, games, sports, outdoor activities & some field trips. Volunteers are needed to help supervise & participate in the organized activities of the day.

Volunteers working in the children’s programs must complete Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Checks.

Where and when you volunteer depends on program requirements, your availability and your personal preferences.  Program sites are located within three facilities in the River Heights/Sir John Franklin/Crescentwood community.  If possible, volunteers are asked to commit to a daily, weekly or monthly schedule during the length of a program.

Who can volunteer?

To apply to volunteer with Central Corydon Community Centre, you must:

  • be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • agree a Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check and be approved
  • submit a volunteer application form
