A community needs a place…

It’s true, and Corydon CC is that place. We’re the place people in River Heights have gone for generations, where they’ve gone to meet, to play and learn and grow and to do all the things that a community needs to do. To be together.

From our humble beginnings as Sir John Franklin, Crescentwood and River Heights Community Centres to our amalgamation in 2011 we have been there for families providing safe, accessible recreational opportunities for the neighbourhood. This programming enhances the quality of life and promotes well-being and a sense of community for young and old.

To do this, we rely on the community itself not only to register for these programs but to volunteer, donate and share time and expertise. We have thousands of volunteers who put in thousands of hours organizing, teaching and planning to ensure we’re able to offer the amazing programs and services we offer. These volunteers are our backbone. Our Centre is run by a volunteer board of directors, and most of our programs are volunteer run as well. Without the support of the community members who give their time to ensure these programs would run we would not be able to continue offering recreational opportunities to our youth and seniors.

Only 13% of our annual revenue comes from the City of Winnipeg, the remainder of the funds for things like further programming and building maintenance must be generated by us and you, the residents, together to ensure we can continue to provide programming for the 34,000+ people in our catchment. We do this through programming fees, hall rentals at all three sites and through events like WinterFest, our major community gathering and fund-raising event held every year.

We have plans for the future, BIG plans and we know we’ll need the continued support from the community to make those plans a reality. It will take work, it will take time and effort but we know it will be worth it because a community needs a place… and Corydon CC is that place.
