ARENA ATTENDANT

Corydon is looking for an Arena Attendant for its River Heights Arena facility – attached is the job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Arena Attendant will be responsible for the general maintenance of Corydon Community Centre’s arena. This position includes the caretaking of ice, building, equipment and related amenities.

The Arena Attendant of the Corydon Community Centre will report directly to the General Manager

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

ICE AND ARENA MAINTENANCE

  • Preparing ice surface and maintains ice including flooding, operating ice conditioning machines, etc.
  • Operates all equipment required for ice making including cleaning, smoothing and preparing ice surface for skating and hockey.
  • Monitor activities to ensure adherence to rules and safety procedures.
  • Keeps informed of shut-down and emergency evacuation procedures
  • Maintain inventories of equipment, storing and retrieving items and assembling and disassembling equipment as necessary.
  • Inspect equipment to detect wear and damage and perform minor repairs, adjustments or maintenance tasks.
  • Identify hazards and perform corrective measures and /or report hazards to supervisor
  • Perform heavy manual duties, including snow removal
  • Maintain records and information as required
  • Assigns and maintains dressing rooms
  • Checks all washrooms, showers, change rooms, spectator seating and public areas on a regular basis
  • Keeps all entrances and exits clear of snow and ice and shovel all sidewalks on a timely basis
  • Empties and takes out garbage as required
  • Enforces the Centre’s rules
  • Reports any damage to the General Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Maintains good relations with all community members as the face and first contact of the Centre

GENERAL MAINTENANCE

  • Check and clean all washrooms, showers, change rooms, canteen, activity spaces and public areas on a daily basis
  • Keep all entrances and exits clear of snow and ice and shovel all sidewalks on a timely basis
  • Receive any materials shipments
  • Empties and takes out garbage as required or at the end of a shift
  • Perform grounds security checks on an regular basis
  • Enforce the Centre’s rules
  • Report any damage to the General Manager
  • Performs other duties as assigned

SUMMER CAMP LEADS

Corydon Community Centre runs summer camps during the months of July and August across the 3 sites (River Heights, Crescentwood, and Sir John Franklin). The role of the Corydon Community Centre Camp Leader is a very critical piece of the puzzle in the overall success of our Summer Camp program. Camp Leaders are expected to go above and beyond and always challenge themselves to be energetic, engaged, and positive role models for all staff and participants. The employee will be responsible for implementing curriculum and adjusting as needed, while maintaining an energetic and engaged attitude. The Camp leads will provide a safe and enjoyable experience to all program participants.

Specific Job Responsibilities (but are not limited to)

  • Work, as part of a team, to implement program activities as directed by the Program Coordinator or administration
  • Assist Summer Camp Counselors with day to day questions and concerns within the camps
  • Taking current inventory of supplies and preparing a list of supplies to be purchased for planned summer activities
  • Doing any preparation necessary for daily activities, crafts and games
  • Promoting the program as well as creating handouts and other marketing items to help increase registration numbers.
  • Checking participants in and out of camp safely and accurately
  • Supervision and safety of participants in daily activities and field trips
  • Participate in camp activities while engaging with participants in an excited and enthusiastic manner
  • Fill in time sheets accurately and punctually
  • Fill in daily incident and accident forms and submit to Program Coordinator promptly (when such forms are applicable)
  • Daily parent communication and interaction
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or administration

Other Requirements

  • Patience, confidence and strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must have a cleared Child Abuse Registry Check (CARC) and cleared Criminal Record Check (CRC)
  • Current First Aid/CPR and AED certification are required
  • Ability to work at any site and be able to be moved to different camps as needed based on numbers

This position starts the week of June 17, 2024 for staff training. Full time (8hrs/day) will start when camp starts on July 2, 2024. Wage is $16-17/hour. Please note that this is a 9-week long grant-funded position and it is expected that staff are available for the full 9 weeks.

The Staff Counselors are responsible for working within the designated program to ensure that the program criteria and objectives are carried out. The employee will be responsible for implementing curriculum, as assigned while maintaining an energetic and engaged attitude. The Staff Counselors will provide a safe, enjoyable experience to all program participants.

Specific Job Responsibilities (but are not limited to)

  • Work, as part of a team, to perform program activities as directed
  • Assist with daily curriculum including all preparation and clean-up
  • Cleaning and organizing toys and program supplies for the start of camp
  • Signing kids in and out of camp safely and accurately
  • Supervision and safety of participants in daily activities and field trips
  • Participate in camp activities while engaging with participants in an excited and enthusiastic manner
  • Filling in time sheets accurately and punctually
  • Filling in daily incident and accident sheets and submit to the camp lead, program coordinator or administration as soon as possible
  • Communication and interaction with parents daily
  • Duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or administration

Other Requirements

GYMNASTICS COACH

Corydon Community Centre offers Kindergym, Recreational and Regional Stream artistic gymnastics programs and ensures each athlete is developing physically as well as gaining self-confidence, discipline, and social skills. Being a coach with Corydon Gymnastics requires teaching excellent technique at all levels, and ensuring safety to help allow athletes to find success.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Set-up/take-down of gym
  • Lesson planning
  • Leading classes, teaching skills/movements, and correcting gymnast mistakes
  • Evaluating gymnasts and creating report cards
  • Interacting with parents and answering questions
  • Attending competitions with competitive gymnasts
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of GF ITA Certified & TRA Trained or able to complete prior to the start of the 2023/2024 season
  • Experience coaching recreational gymnastics required
  • Experience coaching competitive Women’s Artistic gymnastics an asset
  • Cleared criminal record check
  • Cleared child abuse registry check
  • First Aid/CPR certified

CHIF REFEREES

Corydon Community Centre is looking to hire experienced hockey referees for our Corydon Heritage Ice Federation (CHIF). CHIF is our in-house, non-contact, recreational hockey league for kids ages 9-17. The age groups are 9-11, 12-14 and 15-17 years old. All games are played on Saturday afternoons and evenings at the River Heights Arena.

Requirements:

  • Experience leading and instructing/directing on-ice groups
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of sport and rules
  • Enjoys engaging with young athletes, coaches and parents
  • Reliable, punctual, responsible and ethical
  • Physical readiness for position
  • Strong skating ability

Qualifications:

  • Prior referring and/or instruction experience
  • Referee Certification considered an asset
  • Coaching Certificates, Respect in Sport Certification and time-keeping experience are considered an asset

Duties:

  • Officiating fairly and adhering to rules of the game
  • Resolve claims of rule infractions or complaints by participants and assess any necessary penalties, according to regulations maintain a fun and safe environment for participants
  • Parent, coach and player interactions
  • Report to supervisor regarding complaints made and actions taken or other disciplinary actions if necessary.
  • Completing and filing incident reports if necessary
  • Checking games sheets and interacting with timekeepers and arena staff

Rate of pay is $23-$33 per game.
