Program Descriptions

Kindergym

This class is for 4 year olds. During this 40-minute class, the young gymnasts are split into groups and explore movement using various gymnastics apparatuses. The aims of this program include physical skill development as well as development of self-confidence, discipline, and social skills. Specifically selected equipment and music for this age and stage help create a fun environment. As body awareness, balance and agility improve new challenges are added.

Mini-Gym

Mini-gym is for athletes ages 5 & 6. These 50-minute classes focus on physical skill development and social skills. These mini-gymnasts get the chance to explore movement with the aid of gymnastics equipment including the bars, balance beam, spring boards, and various other training aids and the guidance of our enthusiastic coaches. This program is an excellent stepping stone to our recreational classes.

Recreational Classes (Beginner and Intermediate)

Beginner Recreational

Register in a Beginner Rec class if you are 6 to 9 years old. The focus of these classes is to learn the basic movements of gymnastics and progress towards skills required in the competitive levels. Whether or not an athlete continues on to competitive gymnastics, stays in the recreational program, or changes to a different sport, gymnastics is an excellent starting point that helps participants improve strength, coordination, balance, agility, and flexibility. This class is 1 hour long.

Intermediate Recreational *invite only

Athletes who have completed the skills on the first two recreational report cards are invited to Intermediate Rec. This class will focus on the same gymnastics skills that are in level 1 competitive routines. This is an excellent way to progress towards joining the competitive program, it is also a great option if you are busy with other activities as it is one day per week (level 1 competitive is 2 days per week) or if you are not interested in joining the competitive classes. If you would like to join this recreational class and have not received an invitation please reach out to us so that we can assess if it will be a good fit for you!

Recreational 10+

This class is for recreational gymnasts ages 10 and older. This is a great class if you have never done gymnastics before and want to give it a try or if you have previous gymnastics experience – stations will be tailored to the skill level of each individual. The focus of this class is to enjoy the process of learning gymnastics skills while increasing fitness and physical literacy. This class is 1 hour and 15 minutes and includes skills on vault, bars, beam, and floor.

General Information for our Kindergym, Mini Gym and Recreational Programs:

  1. Appropriate attire for class includes a gym suit or shorts and a t-shirt with bare feet. Loose fitting track pants or sweat pants can get in the way and cause a safety concern for the athletes. Skirts, jeans, sweaters, tops that are too revealing or any clothing with zippers or buttons are not permitted.
  2. Long hair must be tied back. Long bangs must also be pinned up, out of the face. Hair clips can be used to hold back short hair. Any donations of hair elastics or clips are always greatly appreciated. We like to keep a few on hand in case an athlete forgets theirs at home.
  3. No Jewelry Please. No necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches or earrings (aside from studs) are permitted during class. If you wear a Medic Alert bracelet it must be taped or you can wear a sweatband over it.
  4. For the safety of your gymnast we ask that you pick up your child as soon as the class is completed. Parents delayed in returning to the gym are asked to contact Corydon Community Centre at 488-7000 ext. 209 and ask to speak to one of the gymnastics coaches.
  5. Parents are encouraged to remain outside the gym during class (some exceptions apply for our kindergym classes). Remember that your gymnast will have the opportunity to show you what they have learned at our Family Display Day. If you have a relative visiting or would like to arrange to watch your son/daughter on a particular day please speak to one of the coaches.

All funds raised through the fundraisers goes towards purchase and repair of our equipment.

Volunteer Requirements for Levels 1-6

Parents or guardians of regional stream and provincial stream gymnasts are required to volunteer a minimum of 3 hours throughout the gymnastics season. If the requirement is not met, the volunteer bond will be cashed. Most volunteer opportunities will be sent by email. There will be a parent meeting at the beginning of the season to answer any questions about this requirement.

Policy for Competition Fees for Levels 1-6

All competitions are mandatory. If the coaches know at the time we are collecting waivers that you are unable to attend due to a pre-planned trip or an injury, you will receive an $85 refund ($95 for Level 5&6). If you cannot compete due to injury after registration, a doctor’s note is required prior to the competition and you will get a partial refund.

Uneven Bar Grip Policy for Level 4 and up

  • Athletes in Level 4 or higher are required to wear dowel grips on the uneven bars.
  • We recommend grips for athletes in Level 3 (no dowel required).
  • Grips are optional for athletes in Level 1 and Level 2.

Grips are available to purchase from the club, please speak to a coach if interested.

Gym Clean Up:

It is expected that athletes stay and help with the gym clean up after class (if their class ends when it is time for clean-up). When we all work together we can get the gym equipment all put away very efficiently! Thank you so much to everyone who stays until the end to help.

If you have any questions or concerns about the above guidelines please speak to a coach.
