Register by MARCH 24 to guarantee your child has a spot on a team! After that date, we will accept registrations only for age groups not yet full.
Players born in 2017 can register for either Rally Cap or Grand Slam – whichever the parents and player prefer. Most 2017-born children new to youth baseball choose to play in the Rally Cap Age Group, but if you and your child have practiced throwing, catching, and batting, and they are comfortable playing with children 2 years older…your child can register in the Grand Slam Age Group.
Baseball (hardball) is for boys and girls ages 5 to 18. The typical baseball season runs from the beginning of May through June with games usually scheduled during weekday evenings and Sundays.
Baseball teams are travelling teams. Usually a team plays the same number of home and away games. Because of player numbers, some players may be asked to play for teams from other community centers. The playoff format has not yet been determined, but other than playoff teams, everyone finishes by the end of June.

Team Formation
The Charleswood, Corydon and Tuxedo neighborhoods work together to form baseball teams. We call our combined group CTC Baseball.
A-League Teams: We keep A players on teams from their home club whenever possible, but must sometimes combine players from our clubs to make appropriate-sized teams. If a player was not on an A team based in their home neighborhood last year, we will try our best to put them on a team based in their home neighborhood this year (unless they request differently).
AA-League Teams: Our AA Tryouts are for players from Charleswood, Tuxedo, and Corydon. Based on players’ evaluation scores, we form AA Teams at 11U, 13U, 15U, and 18U. In age divisions where we have more than 1 AA team, the team will be hosted by the neighborhood that has the majority of players on the team.
Tryouts for AA Teams
** If your player wants to participate in the AA Tryouts, you must register for AA Tryouts when you register. **
NOTE: The AA Tryouts can be added at any time, if your player decides after your initial registration that they want to attend tryouts.
Tryouts for the AA team(s) are held indoors.
Save These Dates!
- Hitting & Pitching Tryouts will be on April 1, 2, or 3. Your child will attend on one of these 3 dates, but age groups have not yet been assigned to a particular date.
- Fielding Tryouts will be on April 7 for 11U and 13U, and on April 8 for 15U and 18U.
Email us now if you know your child will be unable to attend tryouts on any of these dates.
You will receive an email with the tryouts locations, and your exact tryouts time slots, the week before Spring Break.
! We NEED more Baseball umpires !
Unfortunately, many youth baseball games last year had only 1 umpire working the game, rather than the normal 2 umpires – because of a critical shortage of umpires both in our Charleswood/Tuxedo neighborhoods, and in our entire Winnipeg South baseball region.
Anyone age 12 and older (including adults!) can earn good wages while developing calm, assertive leadership skills as baseball umpires!
If you know any teens, older students, adults, senior citizens – anyone who might be interested in a flexible part-time job as a baseball umpire – please have them contact Winnipeg South Umpire Assigner Jared Carlberg, email: jared.carlberg@umanitoba.ca
Umpires must attend a training clinic each year in April, before the start of the baseball season. The Baseball Manitoba website has a tab for Umpires – which has more information about becoming an umpire.
Upcoming Clinics:
Winnipeg South Umpiring Clinics – Level 1 April 13th and Level 2 April 14th

FOR 2024: PLAYERS BORN IN 2015, 2016, 2017 (AGES 9 AND UNDER)
- All players born in 2016 should play in Grand Slam.
- Players born in 2017 who HAVE PLAYED AT LEAST 1 YEAR OF RALLY CAPS BASEBALL can play in either Rally Cap or Grand Slam, whichever the parents and player prefer.
- Most players born in 2017 who HAVE NEVER PLAYED ORGANIZED BASEBALL should play in Rally Cap. However, if you and your child born in 2017 have practiced throwing, catching, and batting and they are comfortable playing with children 2 years older, then your player can play in the Grand Slam age group if you prefer.
- All Players born in 2015 who HAVE NEVER PLAYED ORGANIZED BASEBALL should play in Grand Slam.
- Players born in 2015 who have played at least one year of Grand Slam Baseball, and who WANT TO PLAY IN GRAND SLAM this year, should play in Grand Slam.
- Players born in 2015 who HAVE PLAYED AT LEAST 1 YEAR OF GRAND SLAM BASEBALL and HAVE GOOD BASEBALL SKILLS FOR THEIR AGE and ARE OK PLAYING WITH PLAYERS ONE and TWO YEARS OLDER, can either age-advance one year early to play in 11U-A, or can play in Grand Slam, whichever the parents and player prefer.
** PLEASE NOTE: Regardless of skill level, all players born in 2015 who want to age-advance and play in 11U this year will be assigned to an 11U-A team. All spots on the 11U-AA team(s) are reserved for players born in 2013 and 2014 only.
OVERVIEW
- In Grand Slam, players are divided into teams of 6-8 players. There are no outfielders. The focus is on teaching throwing, hitting, infield play, and base running.
- An inning is 3 fielding outs (strikeouts do not count), or one time through the batting order – whichever comes first.
- Coaches stand in the field during play to instruct defensive players during game play. Parent volunteers with their own baseball gloves stand in the outfield to field any balls hit into the outfield.
- Games incorporate most of the rules of baseball, but the purpose is instructional and non-competitive. Game scores are not kept or recorded, and there are no umpires.
- A Louisville spring-loaded pitching machine that throws relatively soft baseballs is used to pitch to the batters.
SCHEDULE & PLAYING SEASON
- The baseball season begins in late April, weather permitting. The season ends in late June.
- Teams play 2 games per week, on Monday, Wednesday, or Sunday evenings. Most teams practice an additional 1 time per week.

Late Registrations
We will try to have 12-14 players per team and registration will be cut off at that point. Late registrations will not be accepted if there are not enough coaches. Late registrations, if accepted, will be subject to a $30 Late Fee over and above the regular registration fee.
Volunteer Opportunities
Coaches and volunteers will be needed for all teams. Most teams will need a scorekeeper, a pitch counter, a manager, a first aid person, an equipment manager, someone to install bases before each game, coaches and, if possible, someone who can umpire if the scheduled umpire cannot make it. All of these positions are volunteer positions.
If we do not have volunteers to help out, the kids don’t play. Please keep in mind that we need volunteers when you register your children. Knowledge of baseball is not a pre-requisite to volunteering. All volunteers are asked to complete the Respect in Sport training from Sport Manitoba. It is free and on-line.
